About
My name is Maria Grazia Beltrami and I was born in Cremona in 1960.
I learnt to read and write at the age of just three thanks to the legendary television programme Non è mai troppo tardi. I’ve been interested in chemistry and mechanics since I was a child, so much so that I became a chemical plant designer. For professional reasons, I began translating technical texts from English, a language I’ve known since I was a child. I was also head of the Environment Department at Gorizia City Council.
Meanwhile, I have never stopped nurturing my passion for literature, publishing short stories of various genres in newspapers and small magazines, and editing works translated from German into Italian.
In 2007, I attended a creative writing course organised by the Friulian publishing house Kappa Vu and led by the poet Marina Giovannelli, which I concluded by writing the science fiction short story ‘Tomorrow or now?’, which opens the collection entitled ‘Racconti Udinesi’.
From that same year onwards, I began offering my expertise to other writers and became a full-time editor.
My other great passion has always been cooking, an activity I was properly introduced to by my high school chemistry lab teacher, who maintained that anyone who cannot cook a plate of pasta cannot be a chemist.
In 2013, I moved to Berlin, where, in addition to my work as an editor, I also work as a translator and literary scout.
